Oriental Medicine Modalities are Acupuncture, Herbal Medicine, Cupping, Nutrition, Tui Na and Gua Sha;
 Acupuncture:
The practice of Acupuncture originated in China more than 5,000 years ago. Acupuncture is based on the belief that good health depends on the entire body being in balance. Acupuncturists believe that life force, called ‘Qi’, flows throughout the body through a series of complicated channels called meridians. When this flow is blocked, people develop physical and emotional symptoms. If points along the meridians are stimulated with needles, blocked energy can be dispersed, and the body can heal itself.

Recent research has shown that properly placed Acupuncture needles regulate the secretion of hormones such as insulin, corticosteroids, thyroxin, oxytocin, prolactin, and endorphins. Acupuncture can induce physical changes in body chemicals which balance body fluid pH.

How many treatments does it take?
Treatment time depends on the severity and duration of the case. Generally speaking, positive results should be obtained within three to six treatments. In cases of chronic, degenerative diseases such as osteoarthritis, ongoing treatments may be necessary to prevent relapse.

Who should perform the treatments?
Only licensed Acupuncturists and Medical doctors perform Acupuncture treatments. The California State Board of Medical Quality Assurance licenses Acupuncturists as Primary Health Care Practitioners.

What about diet and exercise?
Diet and exercise play a very important role in traditional Chinese medicine. Without the proper foods to nourish ones body and exercise to maintain it in a supple and strong state, the energy may not flow harmoniously through the meridian system. A diet of fresh foods that vary with the seasons and support the constitutional type of the person, along with a form of gentle exercise, are essential in maintaining and promoting good health and preventing disease.
